The Institution of Engineers (India)

The Centre was established on 7th January 1998, with its office initially located at Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, Maltekdi, Amravati. The first Chairman was Dr. S. T. Deshmukh and the Honorary Secretary was L. B. Bhuyar. In 2006, during the tenure of Chairman Dr. S. G. Bahaley and Hon. Secretary Dr. C. R. Patil, a prime land parcel of 2500 sq.ft. was allotted within the premises of Government Polytechnic, Amravati. The planning for the office building commenced in 2008 under the leadership of Dr. Khodke and Seema Patil. A 1000 sq.ft. construction shed was completed in 2010, under the guidance of Er. S. G. Gawande and Hon. D. T. Ingole. The IEI office was shifted in 2011 during the tenure of Dr. D. T. Ingole and Er. A. W. Jawanjal.

The extension of the conference hall, covering 3500 sq.ft., began with a bhumipujan ceremony on 7th January 2013, and was successfully completed and inaugurated on 15th September 2015 by Er. N. J. Bambal and Er. P. S. Kolhe. The first-floor structure's bhumipujan took place on 15th September 2016 at the hands of Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, in the presence of Er. A. W. Jawanjal and Er. M. V. Gudadhe, and was later inaugurated on 15th September 2018 by Dr. Achyut Godbole, with Dr. Sharad Mohod and Er. Y. V. Padole overseeing the event. The kitchen facility was added on 21st May 2017 under the leadership of Er. Vijay Goghare, Chairman of IEI MSC, Mumbai. The dining hall was inaugurated on 7th January 2022 by President H. O. Thakare, with the support of Er. P. R. Khawale and Dr. S. J. Deshmukh. Further planning and developments for the Centre are ongoing.

The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers, established in 1920 with its Headquarters located in Kolkata and incorporated under Royal Charter on 9th September, 1935 by the then His Majesty of King George V. The Royal Charter endowed the Institution with the responsibility to promote the general advancement of engineering amongst its members and persons attached to the Institution. After Independence, the Institution is a "Body Corporate" protected under Article 372 of the Constitution of India. The Institution of Engineers (India) is administered by a National Council with the President as its Head.

The Institution has been serving the engineering fraternity for over a Century with its national and international presence through 124 Centres spread all over India, 6 Overseas Chapters, 7 Fora and an Organ namely Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Hyderabad. The Institution encompasses 15 (fifteen) engineering disciplines with a Corporate membership of over 2 lakhs.

IEI functions with its large contingent of membership of multiple disciplines, and with the support of a host of associated workforce, caters to the needs of the Nation for more than 100 years. The IEI has been instrumental in the past in putting the country's perspectives to the international bodies and has been helpful in bringing international expertise to the country, thus acting as a catalyst in India's accelerating technological progress.
